Final Thoughts
The courses are tough but fair, there’s a ton of depth to the stat tracking and options, and Donkey Kong runs the clubhouse. The gameplay uses the classic three click swing mechanic, but with a very tight timing on the downswing. It took at least a full round before I felt like I could square up on the final click, but there was a good amount of shot shaping available once I started to get the timing down. The “close to the cup” and end of hole animations are also well done. With the variety of golf games on the NES game, I suspect Open Tournament Golf will rank towards the top of those.
